I built ProfitLeak out of frustration — the kind you only feel when you're watching money walk out the door and no one else seems to notice.

Working as a Business Development Manager, I sat across the table from tradies — plumbers, electricians, builders, landscapers — right here in Hawke's Bay and beyond. I watched hardworking business owners pour everything into their trade, only to lose jobs before they'd even started. Not because their work wasn't good enough. Not because their prices were wrong. Simply because the phone rang while they were up a ladder or under a house, and nobody could call back in time.

That missed call became a missed job. And that missed job became a missed customer — one who'd already rung the next name on the list.

I saw it happen over and over, in workshop after workshop, ute after ute. It wasn't a one-off problem — it was an industry-wide leak, quietly draining profit out of businesses that had no idea it was even happening.

With a background spanning sales, software development, and customer experience, I had a vantage point most people in this space don't: I understood the sales pipeline tradies were losing, the technology that could plug the gap, and the customer experience needed to win the job back before it slipped away. So I decided to build the fix myself — a system that instantly responds to missed calls, keeps leads moving through a proper pipeline, and makes sure no tradie ever loses work simply because they were too busy doing the job in front of them.

That idea became ProfitLeak — built here in Hawke's Bay, for the tradies who keep this country running.

My mission is simple: stop the leaks, keep the profit, and give tradies back the jobs they've already earned.

Behind every missed call is a real person. Someone standing in their kitchen with water coming through the ceiling, ringing a number and hearing nothing back. And on the other end, a tradie who'd have gladly taken the job — if only they'd known it was there.

That's who I build for. As ProfitLeak's CTO, I look after the technology that sits between those two people: the text that goes out the moment a call is missed, the inbox that keeps every enquiry in one place, and the compliance checks that flag a job before it's quoted, not after.

My background is in product development and integrations — the part of software most people never see, where the small details decide whether something just works or quietly lets you down. Tradies don't have time to learn another system, and they shouldn't have to. So I hold ProfitLeak to a simple test: if it doesn't work for someone in a ute between jobs, with thirty seconds to spare, it isn't finished.

I take the compliance side personally. When ProfitLeak tells a tradie a job needs a licensed gasfitter or a written contract, that has to be right. Every rule we check traces back to the people who set it — MBIE, the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, and the Electrical Workers Registration Board — because getting it wrong could cost someone far more than one job.

Morne saw the leak. My job is making sure the fix holds — so when the phone rings and you can't get to it, the job still finds its way back to you.
